Mortimer Barten’s musical inspiration comes from various genres, artists and bands. Some of these in no particular order are the Beastie Boys, Depeche Mode, Portishead, Spektre, Primus, Tom Novy, Killa Instinct, The Prodigy and others.
Mortimer Barten creates a unique melange of old school techno and future bass sounds. This is Fusion Techno. It offers a fresh take on techno and edm genres, which satisfies the classic techno aficionados just as it make the party people happy.
Old school techno is characterized by its hypnotic beats, minimalistic approach, and driving rhythms. These characteristics were mostly due to the technical restrictions that samplers and early hard disk recording systems offered. Artists who were pioneers of the genre were able to use these restriction to create immersive and energetic electronic music.
More recent genres like dubstep, future bass and bass music combine elements of electronic dance music with pop, R&B, and hip-hop influences. Artists of these genres have gained popularity for their melodic basslines, vibrant synth textures and emotive song arrangements.
When these two worlds collide, we see a fusion of the old and the new. DJs and producers who explore this combination find ways to incorporate the driving rhythms and hypnotic elements of traditional techno into the more melodic and emotive aspects of future bass. This gives biorth to a sound that features a strong groove and a distinctive main theme, combined with intricate sound design, layered textures and strong rises and drops.
